Five weeks, four countries, six planes, two ferries, five hotels, one dorm, one train ride, three buses and countless memories. Nine months ago I was in shock that a trip like this was even happening in my life. The shock had not worn off until I was waiting at my gate to fly to London Heathrow on May 1. I had always dreamed of traveling to Europe. It's been on my Bucket List for as long as I can remember. Life gets in the way of dreams like these and they get pushed off until it's too late. My hope is that this blog will encourage those who have not traveled to these amazing places to make the time to travel to these wonders of the world. The pictures and words that appear on these pages does not do them justice. Just to be there and watch life around you leaves you speechless. Greece, London, Dublin and Scotland were great places to visit for my first time traveling abroad and the lessons I've been able to take away from this trip are some of the most important ones I've learned in life. I plan to visit them again in the future, but until then, my memories will have to suffice. I hope you can appreciate these memories, and tips as well, as you move throughout this blog. Until next time Europe!

My packing routine was pretty easy. About a month before my travels I started making my list. It was divided into categories and I typed it up in Excel to make checking things off simpler. American Airlines/British Airways has a limit of one checked bag (50 pounds or less), one carry-on item and one personal item. Luckily, my hard-case Ciao luggage bag was good enough for my European travels and my Ful rolling suitcase was small enough to be my carry-on. My Ciao bag was a 24" hardside spinner and only weighed 11 pounds on its own. My Ful was a 21" hybrid rolling duffel bag with a retractable handle and spilt-storage space. I was able to pack all of my clothes in my Ciao with a couple of spare outfits in my Ful bag in case my checked luggage didn't make it to Athens when I did. My NorthFace backpack served as my personal item and held my computer, camera bag, some European cash (the rest was split up amongst my other bags), passport, reading book, and basic school supplies. A copy of my original packing list is featured below. It was difficult to pack for two very different climates in one bag for five weeks, but with minor adjustments and smart arrangements, I was able to fit everything I needed. Purchasing some items when we got to Europe, such as soaps and towels, was also helpful with freeing up some space.

IntroI, Mari Faiello, traveled abroad with the College of Journalism and Communications during the summer of 2017. Officially, UF visited Greece and London, but some friends and I took a weekend trip to Dublin and I also traveled to Scotland for a week with my mom. You can start reading my adventures by clicking directly on the "Greece" tab.
From the "Greece" tab, navigate yourself through Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. Following "Greece" you'll want to click on "London" and then about halfway through you'll go to "Dublin" and then back to "London." After that, you'll visit the "Scotland" page. |
